The Walker Art Gallery has an exhibition by David Hockney, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. This new exhibition brings together a unique selection of paintings and prints, which chart the early development of this iconic British artist. Featuring work from the Walker’s own collection, including “Peter Getting out of Nick's Pool”, which won the John Moores Painting Prize in 1967, together with key pieces from the Arts Council Collection and other loans, the exhibition explores Hockney’s early influences with almost 40 pieces on display, dating between 1960 to 1978.
Liverpool Central Library, re-opened to the public in May 2013 after a 3 year refurbishment, is where the famous collections of rare books are kept, housed in the magnificent Hornby Library and Oak Room. View the impressive Picton Reading Room, one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. For many visitors, the star attraction will be seeing a copy of John James Audubon’s massive ‘Birds of America’, described as the greatest natural history book ever produced.
Tate Liverpool has Art Turning Left, the first exhibition to examine how the production and reception of art has been influenced by left-wing values, from the French Revolution to the present day.
Other Liverpool attractions include the National Maritime Museum, St George’s Hall, Liverpool Museum and Museum of Liverpool Life.
