Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery is home to one of the world's finest collections of Pre-Raphaelite art, as well as extensive collections of fine and applied art, social history, archaeology and ethnography. The Staffordshire Hoard, a unique Anglo-Saxon collection, is still in the process of being conserved and you can see objects pre-conservation and objects that have newly been conserved including objects from the second Hoard.
Photorealism: In late 1960s America, a new movement of artists began painting realistic depictions of everyday objects and scenes – gleaming automobiles, iconic highways, storefronts and diners – which at first glance appeared to be photographs. These artists were initially met with intense criticism but the photorealism movement has changed the way we see art forever. BMAG is proud to be the only UK venue to display this first and largest European retrospective.
